Investigation of Broker/Investment Advisor Representative William Colie Johnson

According to Mr. Johnson’s Central Record Depository (CRD), there are a total of twelve (12) customer disputes, six of which have occurred in the past thirteen (13) months. Several of the more recent complaints allege Mr. Johnson sold unsuitable alternative investments.  This category of investments includes Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), Business Development Companies (BDCs), promissory notes and other private, non-traded securities.  Due to the speculative and illiquid nature of these securities, they are typically only suitable for customers with a high or aggressive risk tolerance and even then, only in a small percentages relative to the overall portfolio value.

Financial advisors have a legal and regulatory obligation to recommend only suitable investments that are appropriate for their clients’ needs and objectives. Their employing brokerage firm have a legal and regulatory obligation to supervise the Financial Advisors’ sales practices and dealings with clients. To the extent any of these duties are breached, the customer may be entitled to a recovery of his or her investment losses.
