Misrepresentation in the marketing and sale of Morgan Keegan & RMK Funds bond funds.
The dramatic losses suffered by these funds were the result of their large investments in illiquid securities known as: Collateralized Bond Obligations (CBOs), Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs), and Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs). As a direct result of the well-publicized turmoil in the credit markets, many of these securities are now illiquid. Additionally, the fund managers made huge bets on CMOs based on subprime mortgages. When the subprime mortgage crisis began in mid-2007, defaults and foreclosures skyrocketed. As a consequence, many of these mortgaged-backed securities lost significant value or became worthless.
The Morgan Keegan and Regions income funds invested heavily in these types of securities. In so doing, the fund managers violated the terms stated in the prospectuses for these funds and mislead purchasers. Further, Morgan Keegan and Regions sales materials and brokers marketed these funds as safe, conservative investments which clearly they were not.
Numerous class action lawsuits have been filed on behalf of investors in the high income bond funds. However, Colling, Gilbert, Wright & Carter encourages fund purchasers to contact our stock broker fraud attorneys offices at (866) 352 3476 or www.stockmarekfraud.com to determine if it may be to your benefit to file an individual arbitration claim which may result in a higher recovery.
